Arkansas Community Stories
The
Sims community is located between Pencil Bluff and Washita on Highway 88
near the banks of the Ouachita River. It is about 45 miles northwest of
Hot Springs. Sims is surrounded by USDA-Forest Service land, making it extremely
interesting and scenic because of the mountain ranges that can be viewed
from there.
When contacted about the Firewise program, Sims residents (many of whom are members of the Sims Fire Department) realized the importance of the program and understood how helpful it could be to them. The community has participated in Firewise Board meetings and helped with planning and determining projects that were needed within the county.
After reviewing the Firewise assessment results, they decided there was a need for fuel mitigation with Sims itself. Residents are enthusiastic about participating in the Firewise program.
