The Johnson County Rural Fire Department #1 has been pro-active in Firewise through its public education program. Fire staff has participated in the county-wide Firewise Open House. Every year, the Department also participates in the Fire Safety Awareness Parade and Kidsfest in October.
All through the year, fire staff presents Firewise programs to interested groups. Current plans include initiating a program in which they will help residents of their district improve their fire readiness by preparing the defensible space around their homes.
